Summary: He wanted one taste of passion… Duo Maxwell’s sexy voice seduced him every night with his late-night radio talk show. So Chang Wufei couldn’t pass up the chance to be his personal assistant—despite Duo’s insistence that he was a vampire. Vampires didn’t wear faded jeans. And they were dark and brooding, not vibrant and fun. Yet…with one glance of his silver violet eyes, Duo could hypnotize him. With one nibble of his passionate lips, he could bend him to his will. Duo insisted Wufei had nothing to fear from him. But why then was Wufei so conscious of his exposed neck?

" When Love Bites Back "

Chapter 15

The silence in the chamber was absolute. Everyone stared at the flush of excitement heating Wufei's cheeks. He pressed his palms against Duo's solid cool chest and gazed up at him with nervous, shining eyes.

"The Council of Six! And the word six appears in the Vlad legend! There are six crystals. Six has to be the key!"

Duo clasped his shoulders, feeling the tremors racing through his feverish body. The iron cages reared behind him. "If you have the solution," he urged quietly, "now's the time, my love. Let's hear it."

"For God's sake," Cathy and Dorothy exploded in unison. "Tell us!" Cathy cast an uneasy glance toward the scowls on the podium.

Wufei drew a deep shaky breath and turned to the elders. To his nervous gaze they looked like a row of fangs with bloodthirsty eyes attached. He hoped to heaven that his inspiration was correct. He wouldn't know until he applied the key.

Treize Khushrenada watched him with cold eyes that had seen things Wufei didn't want to think about. Looking at his expressionless grim face, he couldn't guess if Treize would be relieved when he solved the mystery, or if he had voted with the council members who preferred war to yielding last secret.

"Continue," Khushrenada ordered, speaking through fangs that extended nearly to his chin.

Duo pressed Wufei’s shoulder and his eyes told him that he wished he could help. But Wufei was on his own.

With shaking hands, he raised the notepad scribbled over with the crystals' legend. After clearing his throat, he read every sixth word aloud, speaking slowly, careful not to err. In seconds, Wufei knew he had guessed correctly and his voice steadied and rang through the stone chamber.

"Hold fingernail-size crystal on tongue. Will dissolve in blood. Uncertain success. Shattering possibilities."

Triumphant, Dorothy jumped to her feet and faced the council. "Is he right?" she demanded.

But everyone in the chamber recognized the truth. The secret of the crystals lay exposed.

Chaos erupted on the podium. The vampire elders spoke furiously to each other, Dorothy and Cathy joined the fray. The accusations and arguments were conducted in rapid, inaudible vampire-speak; all Wufei heard was a fierce hissing sound.

"You are brilliant and I love you!" Duo shouted in an exuberant voice. Catching him around the waist, he swung Wufei in a wide circle then caught him close to his body in a crushing embrace, glancing once at the iron cages above his head before he thrust them out of his mind.

Wufei hid tears of relief and joy against Duo’s chest. He was laughing and crying, his hands flying over Duo’s shoulders, his chest, his face. "Oh, Duo. You insisted the code had to be simple, and it was! All we needed was the key."

When Wufei lifted his head to look at him, he gasped and his eyes widened in involuntary fear. And Duo understood the intense emotion of the moment had extended his teeth to frightening proportions. No, he thought suddenly. Not teeth. Fangs. He had fangs. Pointed canines meant to rip and tear, to pierce and suck. Instruments of fear and ardent terror that struck horror into the heart of his beloved. Instantly he covered his lips, appalled and humiliated by the expression on Wufei’s face.

On the podium Zechs Merquise leapt to his feet, shaking with fury. Hissing and lisping, he flung a pointing finger toward Duo and Wufei. "You think you've won! But you haven't heard the last of this!"

His upper lip pulled back from his fangs in a snarl; then he darted from the chamber in a blur of dark movement and vanished into the maze of dungeon corridors.

Khushrenada roared for silence. When there was no sound but the soft crackling of the torches, he gazed heavily at Duo and spoke in a voice weary with defeat.

"The council will honor our word. You will not die in the sun." He continued to regard Duo as Wufei stepped close to him and clasped his hand. "But there will be changes. The council will disband and you will resign as president of IV. One of the elders will assume your position and will hold it until the old ones are comfortable with the organization's aims, direction and intentions. Future changes will occur at a more cautious pace."

"The president of IV must answer to the board of directors, Treize. And the president must abide by the rules of the organization. Even as we speak, one of the crystals is being analyzed. It will be reproduced and made available to the membership. You cannot prevent this from happening."

"We accept that regrettable fact. But we can direct the IV board in establishing rules under which the crystals will be dispensed. An inviolate rule must be that once a vampire becomes mortal, he can never again accept the dark kiss."

Dorothy stepped forward. "As vice president of IV, I believe I can speak for the board on that issue. We agree there must be a stringent screening process as to who receives the crystals and for what reason. We also agree the new-made mortal will be shunned by the vampire community. He or she will forever relinquish any possibility of becoming one of us again."

"Them will be problems," Khushrenada said slowly, "but these last days have convinced the majority of the council that our problems must be addressed. Perhaps IV is the best medium through which to accomplish this." A great weariness settled on his shoulders and his eyes shifted-to the iron cages. "The old ways are dead," he stated softly.

For an instant it startled Duo that Treize and Dorothy had bypassed him so easily, and discussed IV business as if his resignation were signed, sealed and long in effect.

"Will you miss being president?" Wufei asked, wrapping his arms around Duo’s waist and studying his expression.

"Hell, no," he insisted, realizing it was true. "If I ever make noises like I'd like to run for election again, remind me how many member complaints we received each week, and how much paperwork was involved." He grinned down at Wufei, feeling his teeth recede to a manageable level at the thought of paperwork. "Let's get out of this dismal place. Cathy? Dorothy? Let's go somewhere and celebrate!"

"What do you have in mind, cheri?"

"I'm going to rent a plane and we'll cut figure-eights across the sky, We'll soar and dip. Then we'll find an all-night bistro and watch Wufei drink champagne!"

Holding Wufei's hand tightly, and surrounded by his favorite ladies, he led them out of the dungeon and into the cool starry night. He breathed deeply and savored the velvety blackness of the universe. Here, standing on top of Noventa Hill, Duo imagined he could see to the ends of the earth, and he drank in the dark beauty, absorbing the sight like a miser hoarding gold.

* * * * * * *

There was a second celebration after they returned to Denver. Relena and the rest of the board had repaired the destruction done to Wufei and Duo's office, but they hadn't replaced the IV computers. Now that Duo was no longer president, IV's headquarters had temporarily moved to Dorothy's lair. But sacks of mail overflowed the library, most of it from fans of Duo's radio program. Among the stacks of phone messages were several from the God of Death's producer, plaintively asking when Duo would return to work.

Duo ignored it all. One of his first acts upon returning home was to arrange a huge party. No mortals were invited, but every vampire he had ever known received an invitation.

Working through the stacks of fan mail and preparing for Duo's party kept Wufei occupied. Although in truth, preparing for a vampire party was ridiculously easy as there would be no food, and no drinks except wine for those few who liked to indulge old habits by holding a glass in their hand.

Wufei was grateful for the distractions that momentarily diverted his anxiety. He was worried about Duo. He hadn't been the same since their return from Hungary. He didn't rocket into the office on a skateboard, didn't bound in, madly strumming an air guitar. As far as he knew, Duo hadn't once looked at his new microscope, which he had bought to replace the one smashed by the elder's goons.

Uncharacteristically, Duo's mood hovered between somber and reflective. Occasionally Wufei noticed him staring at him with a wistful, thoughtful expression that made his heart turn over in his chest. When he asked what he was thinking, he simply smiled, shook his head and talked about something else. Whatever was going on inside Duo, the almost constant presence of his fangs informed Wufei it was highly emotional. He seldom saw him without his hand covering his lips. He didn't want him to see his teeth.

Shortly after sunset, vampires began to gather for the party. All were IV members so Wufei didn't worry--too much--about being the only mortal among them. There were familiar faces, but most of the vampires he had never met before. Once the house was full, he went in search of Duo, expecting he would introduce him to the unfamiliar faces.

"It isn't necessary," he said, giving his arm an absent pat. Moving away, he joined a group that was laughing silently near the door. Hurt and surprised, Wufei stood to one side and watched Duo virtually ignore him.

Duo liked people and he had always been a cordial host. But tonight, it seemed that he made a point to draw each guest aside for a moment of private conversation. When Wufei saw him embrace Dorothy and hold her for several minutes, he turned blindly and fled.

Confused and aching inside, Wufei ran up the staircase to his private rooms. Clearly he didn't belong at the party; he wasn't wanted. Never had Wufei so acutely felt the vast gulf between himself and Duo.

As much as they loved each other, their relationship couldn't work. Deep inside, he had always known that. And Duo knew it, too. He suspected that was why he'd been behaving so strangely since their return. Duo was beginning to distance himself, trying to think of the kindest, gentlest way to say goodbye. Perhaps he secretly hoped that Wufei would make it easier on both of them by simply leaving.

Running away from the faint hissing and murmuring rising from the packed ground floor, Wufei entered the Renfield apartment, washed his face and prepared for bed, his heart crumbling.

Not long ago, pride would have driven him to leave the instant he sensed his man no longer wanted him. But pride had burned away in the intense flame of his love for Duo.

After toweling his face dry, he stared into the mirror at a man without pride, a man in love. He saw confusion, and pain. Wufei didn't know what had changed, or why Duo seemed so preoccupied. He didn't know why Duo felt the need to surround himself with vampires he had known for a century. Something was happening that didn't include him. And it hurt.

Aching inside and deeply troubled, Wufei climbed into bed. But he didn't fall asleep until well after midnight.

* * * * * * *

"Wufei?"

Waking with a start, Wufei sat up and peered through the darkness. For an instant his heart slammed around his chest, and he thought one of the party guests was sitting on the edge of his bed, anticipating a late-night snack.

"It's me," Duo murmured, taking his hand.

Instantly Wufei was wide-awake. Duo had never interrupted his sleep before--not once. In fact, he didn't remember Duo ever coming inside the Renfield apartment.

"Is something wrong?" The house was silent; darkness still pressed against the windows. "What time is it?"

Duo stroked his hand, then brushed his fingertips across his cheek. "It's about an hour until sunrise. Everyone has gone." A pause followed. "It's finished now."

It troubled Wufei that Duo could clearly see his anxiety and his fear that he was about to send him away, yet he could not see Duo’s expression. When he reached for the bedside lamp, Duo caught his hand and stopped him.

"You're saying goodbye, aren't you?" Wufei whispered, anguish thinning his voice. He longed to see Duo’s face, and the chestnut hair curling past his shoulders, the glint of the gold earring he wore. Wufei desperately wanted to see his eyes and the dark fringe of starry lashes. Yearned to touch him and hold him and beg Duo not to send him away.

"I've been saying goodbye all night," he answered, pressing his fingers against his forehead. "It's time."

"Please, Duo." The last kernel of pride burned away, "Please don't send me away. I love you so much. Whatever's changed, we can--"

"Send you away? What are you talking about?"

Wufei lifted eyes brimming with love and pain. "We've been through so much together. Good moments, silly moments, dangerous and frightening moments. We know each other, Duo. We're part of each other!" They shared the same heart, the same spirit. Wufei could not imagine a life without him.

"My dearest darling Wufei, how could you possibly think I could ever let you go?" Duo’s grip on his hands tightened painfully. "I love you to the depth and breadth of my very soul. I'm not saying goodbye to you, my love, my life. Never you! I'm saying goodbye to a way of life that has no meaning without you."

Wufei froze.

"I've been deceiving myself for over a century. I can no longer bear this life because human beings were never designed to live through eternity. Because a lonely spirit is more deadly than an iron cage. Because raising a family is how a man was intended to spend his life. Because I want to grow old with you, beloved, and share the small aches and pains of natural aging. I want to taste what you taste, feel the emotions you feel."

The intensity with which he spoke made the air vibrate "I want to complain about airline food like everyone else. I want the noise in my head to go away."

Wufei stiffened, and his fingernails dug into Duo’s arms as he began to understand. "Duo! You can't--"

"Most of all, my dearest, my darling Wufei, I want the fangs to disappear. I long to kiss you until we're both dizzy and drunk with kisses. I don't ever want you to look at me again with fear or revulsion in your beautiful eyes. I want to sleep with you in my arms and I want to kiss you awake. I want to sit beside you in the sunlight and welcome the sun's warmth instead of fearing it. I want to be human again."

"Oh, my God!" Tears blinded Wufei as he threw himself into Duo’s arms. "Duo, no! You can't do this, you can't!"

Lifting Wufei as if he weighed no more than a doll, Duo carried him downstairs to the library, murmuring in his ear while he wept and railed and begged him to reconsider.

When he set him on his feet, Wufei pressed against his body, trembling with a turbulent mix of emotions. "Please, Duo. There's no cure for retinitis pigmentosa!"

Gently Duo cupped his face between his palms, speaking past teeth elongated with emotion. "I'm accustomed to darkness. I'd rather be blind with you at my side, than see everything without you. Without you, Wufei, there is nothing I want to see."

Gripping his shoulders, Wufei gave him a violent shake, tears blurring his image. "I'd rather become a vampire than let you do this! That's a better solution. We can--"

"No!" His arms enfolded Wufei and embraced him against his chest. "I've thought about it incessantly, Wufei. I've thought about nothing else since we returned. This is what I want. I've wanted mortality for a very long time. I just wouldn't admit it."

"But you'll go blind!" he said, frantically wiping the tears from his face. Wufei could not imagine this vibrant electric man living without sight. This man who loved his microscope, his flying lessons, his Harley, who loved to ski and ride a skateboard and read and tour the art galleries.

"You will be my eyes," he said gently. "I will see the world through you."

Behind Duo he glimpsed his preparations. In the pale light of a waning moon, he saw a small table on which he had placed the crystal Khushrenada had given them to examine, and beside it, a plastic bag filled with dark fluid.

"Duo, for God's sake. You must listen!" Wufei would rather have walked out of his life, rather have lived his life doomed to a hopeless and lost love, than be the cause of his blindness. "I'm begging you. Please! Please, don't do this."

Panicked, hot hands flying over him, Wufei recalled the instructions for the crystal's use.

"Duo, please! We don't really know if the crystal will work! The message said the results were uncertain. Don't you remember? It said them were shattering possibilities." Wufei could hardly speak through the hot frantic tears that dogged his throat, "You could die!"

Gently Duo brushed away Wufei’s tears with his thumb. "I would rather die tonight than live an eternity without you. Listen to me, Wufei. This is my choice and mine alone. You must never pity me or blame yourself. This is what I want!"

His voice was calm and steady. Whatever fears he might have had, he had come to terms with them.

"Oh, God! You're really going to do this!"

Duo gave him a lopsided smile. "I'm going to be the first blind man to ski and ride a skateboard."

Wufei gasped, them flung himself into his arms. Duo held his violently trembling body, making soothing sounds deep in his throat, stroking Wufei’s hair, his back, his arms. When he was finally quiet, but still shaking, he smoothed back his hair and tilted his head to meet Wufei’s wet eyes.

"I need you to be strong for me, Renfield darling. If it goes wrong…there are things you will need to do so the authorities--"

"Stop! I don't want to hear this!" A deep shudder racked Wufei’s body, and he covered his ears. Moonlight gleamed on Duo’s teeth, but Wufei didn't notice.

"There isn't much time," Duo said in the smoky voice he loved so well. "The night is fading."

"Is there nothing I can say to make you reconsider?" Wufei whispered, desperately yearning to share a lifetime with Duo and the torment of knowing the price he would pay. If Duo survived the process of change.

"Nothing" Duo traced his lips with his fingertips and Wufei knew Duo yearned to kiss him as urgently as he yearned for his kiss. But he would not, not with his fangs growing longer and sharper as emotion seized him and trembled through his body.

"I love you, Wufei. Whatever happens." His hands tightened painfully on his shoulders. "Always remember that I love you and this is what I wanted."

When Duo released him, he almost fell. Wufei’s knees had turned to rubber. His heart beat crazily. His hands shook so badly that he imagined he could hear his bones rattling with fear.

Weeping, unable to speak, Wufei watched him walk to the table, and his heart broke for Duo. He was about to plunge into a dark mystery with uncertain results; he had to be frightened, too. Pausing, he looked at him for a long, long moment before his trembling hand reached for the crystal.

"I will remember you always as you are this minute," Duo whispered. "Standing in the moonlight, your hair tumbled and wild. Keep loving me, Wufei, and I'll be the luckiest man alive."

Opening his lips, he placed the crystal on his tongue. Then he reached for the plastic bag.

"Wait!" Wufei moved forward, his knees suddenly steady as he understood what he had to do, what he had always been meant to do. If this wonderful man; this man he loved so deeply that he would have surrendered his life for him; if he was willing to step into the dark unknown for his sake, then he would walk next to him. This had been his destiny from the beginning.

Duo gazed at him and frowned, his hand on the blood bag.

"No," Wufei said quietly but firmly, removing his hand and raising it to his chest. "When the crystals were found, there were no such things as blood banks."

Gazing deeply into his eyes, Wufei slowly tilted his head and drew back his hair, exposing the arch of his throat. He could feel his pulse pounding beneath his ear, knew Duo could hear his heart thudding wildly and the rush of his blood.

Duo stared at his neck as his hand slid upward to his shoulder. Duo’s thumb stroked his throat, and a long sensual shudder rippled through his body.

"No," he whispered hoarsely. "I don't know what would happen. I could lose control and..."

"Take my blood to dissolve the crystal," Wufei whispered seductively, wanting to know Duo in all ways while it was still possible. Love glowed in his tear-damp eyes. "Take my blood and my love. This is our destiny." When Duo hesitated, indecision darkening his eyes, he stepped forward and pressed the flame of his body against him, hearing his sharp intake of breath.

"Listen to my heartbeat, beloved. Do you hear it?" Wufei’s voice sank to a hypnotic husky register. He felt Duo’s erection grow hard and urgent against his stomach. Heard his low tormented groan. "Let me share this moment, Duo, let me be part of it. Let my heart restore your mortality."

He drew Wufei go him, crushing him tightly against his body. Duo’s violet eyes seemed to burn in the darkness. Wufei felt the thick hardness of his erection through the thin material of his pajamas, felt Duo moving against his hot flesh until he was just as hard with desire for him.

"I hear your heart like a drumbeat," he whispered. "I smell the sweetness of you, feel your passion."

When Wufei opened his eyes, he saw a tiny trickle of blood on Duo’s lip where, the sharpness of his teeth had scratched.

"I love you" He stared into his burning eyes and saw the thirst and desire and a need so deep, it swept his breath away.

Then he turned his face aside and let his eyes fall closed. He swayed against Duo and bared his throat as he groaned then lowered his dark head.

First there were dual pricks of pain, like cold needles entering his flesh. Then Wufei gasped as a warm trickle slid to the base of his throat, puddled, then flowed down his chest. His fingers tightened convulsively on Duo’s shoulders as a hot erotic tingle spread from his neck to his chest and nipples, to his stomach and loins.

Fire and rapture exploded in his mind. As Duo drank from him, blood leaked from the scrape on his lip and entered the tiny punctures. Their blood mingled and in a blinding flash Wufei saw Duo’s life in silvery mirrored sparks. He saw Hilde and the mortals who had sustained his long life. He saw Dorothy and the dark kiss that had made Duo a vampire, the same dark kiss that was draining him now.

Wufei’s mind and spirit melded with Duo’s and twisted in a passionate embrace that was lust and tenderness, desire and tears. He experienced Duo’s horror at living on mortals; he shared his joy in his restored sight. Wufei lived his fears and his goodness, his pain and his small pleasures. He became Duo and felt Duo become him.

Locked in his dark embrace, soaring among the stars as one entity, Wufei saw the silvery effervescence of life, Duo’s life and his life, life itself. From the sharing of souls, he felt Duo’s love for him, and knew the depth of his love for him.

Time and space narrowed to this moment and his arms, his dark kiss. Wufei wanted the bliss and rapture of their souls merging to continue forever even if the cost was every drop of his blood. It shocked Wufei badly when Duo fell away from him and he tumbled from among the silvery stars, felt himself wrenched violently away from Duo’s spirit, his soul.

Throwing out a hand, Wufei dropped his head and steadied his shaking body by leaning heavily on the table. His weakness was so great that he could hardly stand. He trembled violently.

When finally Wufei found the strength to lift his head, the sky was shot with gold and pink. The room had lightened to the extent that he saw Duo clearly

"Duo! Oh my God!"

Duo thrashed on the floor, convulsing. Wufei ran to him and dropped to his knees. His hands reached out to his as tears coursed down his cheeks. Wufei didn't know what to do. But he knew Duo was dying. The crystal had killed him. Sobbing, he fell across Duo as his body went still.

* * * * * * *

The sound of choked sobs was the first thing he heard, and his name tearing past Wufei’s lips. Gradually he became aware of his heartbeat, then a symphony he had not heard for one hundred and eighty years. The chirruping of birds.

As consciousness returned, Duo experienced a strange tingling deep inside, an excruciating sensation of fire melting ice. Every cell in his body erupted in pain, shattering and reforming. Lava flowed in his veins and arteries.

Duo didn't know if he was transforming or dying. If he was vampire or mortal.

"Duo! Oh, thank God, thank God!" Wufei covered him with kisses, hot salty tears wetting his face. "I thought you...! Oh my dearest, my darling, my love. I thought..." sobs shook his body.

Lifting a weak hand, Duo touched the twin punctures on Wufei’s throat, saw how white he was. "I went too far," he whispered, remembering the shimmering effervescence of Wufei’s soul, how his essence had glowed and sparkled. The rapture of knowing him so totally, his passion for Wufei, had almost killed him.

"Can you sit up? Can you stand?" Wufei helped him, tears streaming down his cheeks. "Did the crystal work?"

"I don't know." The pain inside was so great that he believed he might be dying. Duo felt sure of it when the first faint light of dawn glowed past the library doors and seared him. Fear leapt into his throat. He had to see Wufei again before the full force of the sun struck him and reduced him to ash.

After struggling to his feet, Duo leaned against the wall and caught Wufei fiercely in his arms, hearing their hearts pounding wildly together. Then he slid his hands to frame his face and feasted on the sight of his lovely, velvet eyes, the smooth slope of his cheek, the heartaching sweetness of his mouth.

Then it began. The shadows at the corner of his vision slowly solidified into darkness. He blinked hard and shook his head. The shadows advanced toward Wufei's face, blotting the light, leaving blackness in their wake.

"Help me outside," he whispered.

Wufei stared at him. "Oh, Duo, are you sure?"

"Yes. Please."

After a tiny hesitation, Wufei draped his arm over his shoulders and together they staggered through the library doors and into the garden as the sun edged above the horizon.

The heat of the first rays was so intense that Duo stifled a cry and clasped Wufei's shoulder in a grip that he gradually realized must be painful for him.

Then he saw the sky and forgot the burning on his skin. Tears filled Duo’s eyes. "Oh my God. It’s so blue. It's so deep

and so blue! How could I have forgotten this?"

"Yes," Wufei wept. "Yes, my darling."

"And warm!" The burning sensation flared, then began to fade, replaced by a surging infusion of warmth. A staggering warmth banished the chill of centuries, caressing Duo’s face and arms, growing in the pit of his stomach, swelling behind his chest.

"I'm alive!" Lifting his face to the sky, he threw out his arms. "Renfield! I'm standing in the sun, and I’m alive!"

"Yes!" Wufei was laughing and crying, kissing him, touching him. "You're alive!"

But even as Duo frantically tried to see everything, the fresh unfolding jewel flowers the birds, the green, green summer grass, the sky, the sunlight pouring over everything like warm golden honey, his field of vision was narrowing. Like a closing a camera shutter, the shadows advanced creating two tunnels that had begun to blur at the ends.

Frantic, Duo reached for Wufei and held him at arm's length in front of him. "Let me look at you," he whispered hoarsely, drinking in the sight of him while he could.

Wufei gazed at him with shining wet eyes, his oval face framed by sleep-tousled black silk. His lips were breathing his name. He glowed against the blue sky behind him, radiant with love.

As Wufei’s image began to fade, Duo touched his hands to his face, tenderly, reverently, seeing him with his fingertips.

He had believed he would remember Wufei standing in the moonlight, but he had been wrong. The image he would carry with him throughout their life together would be the one he saw now.

Sunlight shone in his glossy hair, his onyx eyes glowed with love and sunshine. His beautiful radiant face smiled in the soft morning light. This was the image he would cherish and take with him into old age. Wufei standing bare-foot in the sunlight, forever young and loving him.

Tears shining in his eyes, he drew Wufei to him and kissed him deeply, passionately, and he felt his soul soar toward fulfillment. He would kiss Wufei a thousand, thousand times in the years ahead, and each time he would whisper a silent prayer of gratitude that Wufei was his and he was Wufei’s.

There would be no regrets, no looking back. Having seen Wufei’s face in the sunlight, having seen his personal heaven in his radiant black eyes, he would not regret his blindness.

Holding each other close, their hearts beating as one, they turned their faces to the warmth of the rising sun.
